Springboard into Science or Education and Child Studies BTEC Level 2 at Burnley College

Course description

This course focuses on preparing students to achieve the entry requirements for Level 3 Health and Social Development courses or to equip them with the skills required for the workplace.

Units include: Preparation for the Workplace, Child Development, Play, Sociology and Human Biology. This course also requires students to undertake a minimum of 60 hours voluntary work at a placement relating to the students chosen career. For example, students may wish to undertake work experience at a chemist, laboratory, school, early years setting or an outreach programme.

There are three pathways available, including Child Care, Science and Employability. Completion of the GCSE and Ascentis qualification combination opens up a huge range of opportunities for students.

Entry requirements

A minimum of two GCSEs at grade C or above in addition to GCSE English Language at grade D or above OR a relevant Level 1 Diploma and GCSE grade D in English Language. This course is subject to a clear enhanced DBS check.

Assessment

Assessment is by coursework and placement reports.

Future opportunities

A Diploma in Children’s Play, Learning and Development (Early Years Educator) or the BTEC Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care (including BTEC Cadet Scheme). Students may also wish to progress to an Apprenticeship working with children or young people
