A Level Law BLOCK B at Northfleet School for Girls

Course description

The course provides an excellent
foundation to those wishing to
study for a law or related degree
at university, or alternatively those
who just have an interest in the law.
During the first year students will
study law making in the English
Legal System, including case law,
statute law and EU’s influence on
our legal system. Students will also
study the organisations involved
in the criminal justice system by
learning about police powers,
the process of court trials, legal
personnel as well as an overview of
the civil justice system.
In the second year the students
will study the English Criminal
Law in detail. Looking at the
fundamental principles of criminal
law, the elements of criminal
offences before going on to study
the main offences including murder,
manslaughter, offences against the
person, theft and robbery. Students
will be taught to critically analyse
points of law as well as apply the
law to real life scenarios.
This course will suit a student who
is hard-working, conscientious and
is able to construct a well written and structured essay. Students must be able to think analytically
and make a reasoned argument.

English Grade 5 or above

The law A Level would suit a
student who is looking for a career
in the legal profession, such as
a solicitor or barrister as well as
those looking for careers in the
criminal justice services such as the
police, court services or offender
psychological profiling etc.
Law is a well regarded subject and
is also a useful subject for students
looking to pursue a career in
business, finance and banking.
