Physical Education A Level at Community School

Course description

It provides an insight into the world of sport and its many facets. The study of PE at A level requires commitment and will challenge each candidate both academically and physically in new and interesting ways.

Course content

AS Level
• An introduction to Physical Education including:
• Anatomy and Physiology
• Skill Acquisition
• Sport and Society
• Sport Psychology
• Technology in Sport
• Biomechanics in Sport
• This is 50% of the full A level course.

A Level
You will study all the topics listed in Year 12 but in greater detail.

A2: 2 x 2 hour written exam papers.

Practical -Non exam assessment (NEA)
Students are assessed as performer or a coach in the full sided version of one activity from the select specification. Student must also produce either a verbal or written analysis of performance.

Entry requirements

GCSE PE A* - C is normally required but other students may be considered in exceptional circumstances

Future opportunities

It links well to social and natural sciences and to the vocational fields of Leisure and Recreation, Health and Social Care. This course is an excellent stepping stone for a wide variety of career paths and undergraduate courses.
