Countryside Management BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma at Lincoln Castle Academy

Course description

This BTEC Level 3 course is a specialist qualification for those who have a clear view of their career or want to progress to higher education. It is a highly structured course and will appeal to those that are interested in the countryside and do not want to spend all their time sitting in a class room. If you have an enquiring mind and want to find out how to manage the beautiful British countryside, then this course will give you a valuable insight into the organisations, policies and actions that are required.

The key skills you will gain from this course include independent research, communication skills, extended report writing, evaluation skills and the ability to manage your own time. The units that are covered compliment a number of other subjects. These include Science (especially Biology), Business Studies and Geography.

Entry requirements

It is recommended but not essential, that you have completed the BTEC Level 2 Countryside and Environment course having attained at least a ‘Merit’ grade. Having five ‘A*’-‘C’ grades at GCSE, including English and Science, would also be beneficial. Individuals will be considered on their own merits but must have a high degree of motivation to succeed.

Future opportunities

The course is vocationally based and is designed to help people gain employment in the countryside management sector. This could be with one of the number of agencies, such as the Environment Agency, British Waterways, or employment in the private sector. If you are not looking to go directly into employment then the course is the equivalent to ‘A’ Levels and therefore is valued by both Universities and FE colleges and attracts UCAS points like all Level 3 subjects.
