Prep 4 College - Young Mums at Bolton College

Course description

Becoming a mother and putting your own life on hold to support another is both a challenging and rewarding experience; but don't neglect your potential. Remember, women are great multi-taskers!

If you are a pregnant teen or a teen mum, this course is designed specifically for you. It offers a learning programme that enables you to get the skills, knowledge and understanding that you need to progress on to a full-time college course, employment or an Apprenticeship.


Course content

This course covers three key elements:

  • Vocational Tasters throughout the College
  • Functional Skills in Maths, English & ICT
  • Personal & Social Development

Entry requirements

You must be aged between 16-18 and either be pregnant or already a mother.  We will also invite you for an interview at the College.


You will be asked to compile a portfolio and sit an exam.

Financial information

Government-funded Further Education courses are usually free if you are aged 16-18 and are a British or European Union resident.  Financial help is available for some students, whose families are on low income. Future opportunities

On completion of this course, you will be in the perfect position to progress to one of a variety of full-time vocational courses at College.

Alternatively, if you're keen to start earning, you could secure yourself a job in your chosen field of interest and do an Apprenticeship - enabling you to earn while you learn!
