AS/A2 Level Theatre Studies at Burton and South Derbyshire College
This course is a mixture of both practical drama and theoretical studies of plays, playwrights, theatre practitioners and dramatic techniques. The first year of the course focuses on exploring two plays from very different time periods through practical exercises, which is the coursework unit. The second section focuses entirely on performance as students will be able to perform in a lecturer directed piece and a student led monologue.
Students need a minimum of 5 GCSEs grade C or above (one must be English).
Studying drama provides an excellent grounding for University courses allowing work explored in theory to be put into practice. Students could also apply to drama schools or higher education courses to improve on their vocational training within the arts There is no written exam in the first year. The second year of the full A Level allows the student to take part in the devising and realisation of a completely original piece of theatre and prepares them for the written exam. The exam will focus on two different plays and allows the students to look at them from the point of view of a director and also focuses on changes in drama throughout history
