Impact of Ideology

AS Level modules:The Reformation in Europe, c1500-1564
A study of the dramatic Reformation movements of Luther and Calvin that swept through sixteenth century western Europe, and the efforts of the Catholic Church to recover and re-establish its strength.This module is assessed by examination.(50% of the total AS / 25% of the total A Level) Anti-Semitism, Hitler and the German People,1919-1945A study of the anti-Semitic views of Hitler and his impact on attitudes and policies towards Jews, before the war in Germany and during the years of conflict, including the Holocaust.This module is assessed by examination.(50% of the total AS / 25% of the total A Level)

A2 Level modules :The Making of Modern Britain, 1951-2007A study of the development of post-war Britain, including growing European union, the ‘Thatcher Revolution’ and the impact of Britain’s ‘special relationship’ with the US in recent times.This module is assessed by examination.(30% of the total A Level) Race Relations in the USA, 1865-1980A study of the development of race relations in the US following the end of slavery in 1865, including growing tensions and the activities of the Ku Klux Klan, the inequalities of segregation and the long campaign for civil rights.This module is assessed by a coursework piece of 3500 words.(20% of the total A Level)

Conflict and Stability AS Level modules:
Yorkists to Tudors – Britain, 1483-1529A study of early Tudor history, including the demise of Richard III and the Yorkist monarchy, the challenges to stability during the reign of Henry VII and key developments during the early reign of Henry VIII.This module is assessed by examination.(50% of the total AS / 25% of the total A Level) The USA and Vietnam, 1961-1975A study of US involvement in Vietnam, including Kennedy’s commitment to containing communism, the escalation of war and the crisis of Johnson’s presidency and Nixon’s approach to ‘Peace with Honor’.This module is assessed by examination.(50% of the total AS / 25% of the total A Level)

A2 Level modules:
Aspects of International Relations, 1945-2004A study of international developments from the end of the Second World War, including the Cold War, the collapse of communism in eastern Europe, and the background to more recent developments in Afghanistan and Iraq.This module is assessed by examination.(30% of the total A Level) Britain and Ireland, 1893-c2000A study of this challenging period of British history, including the impact of Irish nationalism, political violence and the pursuit of peace.This module is assessed by a coursework piece of 3500 words.(20% of the total A Level)

Entry requirements

A* - C grades with a B grade in the applicant's chosen A level subjects for automatic entry. If an applicant attains C grades in the GCSE subjects they wish to study at A levels, entry is subject to a discussion with the Heads of Subject and Head of Sixth Form
