Business Studies A Level at Newcastle Sixth Form College
Business allows students to develop a broad understanding of business organisations and provides you with the knowledge of the key business functional areas; marketing, accounts and finance, human resources and operations management.
The changes to the A Level specification reflect the ever changing character of business, the rapid growth of new technologies and their impact on business operations, the diverse nature of enterprise (including ecommerce), and the interdependence of these functional areas in the business world.
Studying A Level Business also equips students with life skills such as literacy, numeracy, problem solving, time management, team work, decision making and employability skills.
5 GCSE at A* - C which should include English and Maths.
Students who have not achieved a grade C or above in English and/or Maths will be required to resit them during their first year.
Learning and assessment
At the end of Year 12, you will sit the AS Level qualification, comprising of two external exams, in order to assess your progress and give an indication of your ability. This grade will be vital for any university applications. However, this grade does not count towards your final A Level grade and you will be expected to study Year 12 content for your three external A Level exams.
You will sit three external exams at the end of Year 13.
Students can progress to higher education courses such as business management, business administration, accountancy and finance, human resource management, marketing, retail management, tourism management and international business.
Students can progress to a wide range of careers ranging from retail, banking, sales, product management and general management in public sector organisations or charities.
