Course description

The new specification consists of two units at AS and two units at
A2.
AS Course

Unit 1 – Texts in Context. Assessed by examination.
We have chosen World War One Literature as the focus for year
12.
Students will answer two questions in the examination: one on a
set poetry text, and one on wider reading.
Unit 2 – Creative Study. Assessed by coursework essays.
Two tasks linked to the literature studied for Unit 1.
One essay on a prose text and one on a drama text. 2000-2500
words in total.

The Literature of World War One:
Examination Set Text: “Scars upon my heart” – poetry anthology
Wider Reading Texts: World War I - poetry anthology
Coursework Texts: Regeneration by Pat Barker
Journey’s End by R. C. Sherriff
A2 course

Unit 3—Reading for Meaning. Assessed by Examination.
Students will answer two questions involving unprepared extracts
and wider reading on the unit theme Love Through The Ages.
Unit 4—Assessed by coursework essay.
Comparative essay on three texts, including a Shakespeare play,
linked by theme.

Entry requirements

at least a grade ‘C’ at GCSE
