Philosophy A-Level at The Coleshill School

Course description

This is an exciting and dynamic course which is designed to enable you to develop insights into areas of knowledge, belief and thought central to an understanding of the modern world. Through a study of philosophy, ethics, scripture and some of the world’s major religions you will be equipped with a range of knowledge and skills which will help you to make sense of contemporary events. A Level Religious Studies complements many other subjects such as English, History and the Social Sciences.

Course content

Unit 1 of the course introduces two areas of study: Philosophy of Religion and Ethics.

Unit 2 allows students to study ethical issues in more depth through research based learning.

Unit 3 studies issues in the Philosophy of Religion such as Atheism, Near Death Experiences and as a complete contrast you will study aspects of Hinduism.

Unit 4 is designed to test knowledge, understanding and skills of the previous units through further study of religious, philosophical and ethical source material.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements to A Level Courses are 5 A* to C grades at GCSE including English and Maths.

Unit 1 is a 1 hour 45 mins exam 50% of AS 25% of A Level

Unit 2 is a 1 hour 45 mins exam 50% of AS 25 % of A Level

A2

Unit 3 is a 1 hour 15 min exam 25% of the A Level

Unit 4 is a 1 hour 15 min exam 25% of the A Level
