BTEC Construction Level 2 at Nottingham Academy

Course description

This course is aimed at people who are considering a career in construction.

Course content

You will develop a broad understanding of the construction

industry, the types of projects it undertakes and the

contribution it makes to a wider society. You will also look at

how client needs can determine the design of a building.

Following this study you develop your own design ideas to a

given brief. You will also learn the fundamentals of low-rise

construction techniques and common building materials. A key

maths component will strengthen your understanding of the

underlying principles that govern successful building

construction. In addition to theoretical study, you will also

engage with a practical component in which you develop

skills in bricklaying by exploring established principles

and techniques.


You will study 4 units

– Unit1: Construction Technology.

– Unit 2: Construction Design.

– Unit 3: Scientific and Mathematical Application for Construction.

– Unit 7: Exploring Brickwork and Blockwork Principles and Techniques.

Entry requirements

Usually 1 GCSE at grade D/E or above,however, applications will be

taken into consideration depending on previous educational background


Students will be assessed by an examination (25%) and externally verified coursework (75%).

Future opportunities

This course could lead to a career in construction or level 3 courses.
