Theatrical & Media Make Up - VTCT Level 3 Diploma at East Durham College

Course description

This qualification is designed for learners who wish to pursue a career as an employed and/or self-employed make-up artist. Learners will provide a range of creative make-up services in media, theatre and fashion and photographic settings. Learners will also style and fit hair pieces, apply false eyelashes and understand related cosmetic science that underpins the subject. Learners will also develop communication and customer service skills together with research and problem solving skills.

Entry requirements

It is expected students will have achieved either one of the following qualifications or have appropriate prior experience.
Level 2 Beauty Therapy
Level 2 hairdressing
Level 2 Hair and Media make-up.

Assessment

Students are assessed throughout the course both practically and theoretically. Assessment is set, marked and internally quality assured to demonstrate achievement of learning outcomes. Students will complete a final synoptic practical assessment. Learners will also produce a portfolio of evidence to meet learning outcomes as specified. Externally assessed question papers completed electronically will be set and marked by the examination board.

Financial information

If you have been a UK resident for the past 3 years and are under the age of 19 on the 31st August, you will not usually need to pay any course fees.

Future opportunities

This qualification is designed for learners wishing to pursue a career as an employed and/or self-employed make-up artist, providing hair and make-up services in film, media, theatre, performing arts, fashion and photographic industries, National Health Service and product manufacturing and training.

Further information

Learners who achieve this qualifcation are eligible to become members of the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC). The primary purpose of this qualifcation is to prepare learners for employment, however upon completion of this course learners may choose to progress to Level 4 in Salon Management or Advanced Beauty therapy Techniques.
