Vehicle Inspection Diploma Level 2 at St Helens College

Course description

With this course, you'll study both the theory and practical aspects of motor vehicle inspection.

You'll be maintaining engine systems, repairing and replacing various vehicle tyres, carrying out wheel alignment and inspecting steering suspension components.

You will also gain the knowledge to meet customer needs.

Course content

During this course, you will cover the following units:

  • Health and safety
  • Job roles
  • Fabrication, tools and measuring devices
  • Spark ignition components and operation
  • Repairing and replacing high performance wheels and tyres
  • Four wheel alignment
  • Routine maintenance

We will also support you to find work experience within local automotive companies.

Entry requirements

You should have successfully completed a full level 1 diploma course.

English and maths forms an important part of your future, ensuring you achieve the best success in your chosen career. But don't worry, if you haven't got the desired grades, we will still have a course available for you.


You will be assessed by assignments, completion of module packs, online exams, workshop practical assessments and an e-portfolio submission.

Financial information

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2016), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. 

Future opportunities

Upon completion of this course, you will have the opportunity to progress on to an apprenticeship or our level 2 diploma in maintenance and repair.

Alternatively, you may wish to enter the automotive industry and gain employment as a pre-delivery inspection technician.
