Hospitality and Catering BTEC Extended Certificate Level 2 at Bracknell and Wokingham College

Course description

This is a practical, work-related course which introduces you to the skills needed for the kitchen as well as the range of opportunities available throughout the hospitality industry. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, as well as some units being externally assessed.

Course content

The course is made up of a number of mandatory and optional units including: • Introducing and working in the hospitality industry • Food Safety • Health & Safety • How the hospitality industry contributes to a healthy lifestyle • Planning, preparing, cooking and finishing food • Planning and running an event Units are either assessed internally or via external set and marked exams.

Entry requirements

• Four GCSEs to include grades D and three E grades. GCSE English Language will preferably be at Grade D • If you do not have a grade C in GCSE English Language and maths you will be required to be working towards achieving this alongside your course • Any vocational qualification being used as part of the entry requirements must be achieved at merit level or higher

Future opportunities

• Further education - progression on to the BTEC Level 3 courses, providing you achieve at least a Merit • Employment - in the hospitality industry
