Food Technology at Trinity Academy

Course description

Below you will find some information regarding the GCE Food Technology course. Please note that there are some entry requirements for this course. 

Course content

This qualification focuses on key areas that the food industry has to consider including the quality of food, processing, health and safety and nutritional value.
 
You will cover the following units:
 Unit 1: Portfolio of creative skills (coursework/ practical) Accounts for 60% of final AS grades or 30% of a final A2 grade
 Unit 2: Design and technology in practice (exam). Accounts for 40% of final AS grade or 20% of a final A2 grade
 Unit 3: Food products, nutrition and product development (exam). 20% of final A2 grade
 Unit 3: Commercial design (coursework/ practical) 30% of final A2 grade.

Entry requirements

In addition to or as part of five A* - C GCSE grades, it is advantageous to have studied GCSE Food and you should hold a grade C or above in Science.

Assessment

As detailed above, this qualification involves both exams and coursework.

Further information

This course will develop your knowledge, understanding and skill for designing food products. You will be expected to take part in extra-curricular events (including competitions) and you will also visit food manufacturers to gain knowledge and understanding of the food industry.
