AS/A2 Philosophy at Bridgewater High School

Course description

What will I study?

You will answer a compulsory question on Reason & Experience and one other question from: Why should I be governed? Why should I be Moral? The Idea of God, What is a Person?

In Unit 2 you will answer two questions from Knowledge of the External World, Tolerance, The value of Art, God and the World, Free Will & Determinism.

At A2 you will answer two questions from two different sections (ie. on two themes) from: Philosophy of Mind, Political philosophy, Moral philosophy, Philosophy of Religion. In addition you must choose one section and answer the compulsory question and one essay question (including study of Hume, Plato, Mill, Descartes, Nietzche).

  • AS Unit 2: An Introduction to Philosophy 2
  • A2 Unit 3: Key Themes in Philosophy
  • A2 Unit 4: Philosophical Problems

How will I be assessed?

Unit 1: Written exam (1 hour 30 minutes)

Unit 2: Written exam (1 hour 30 minutes)

Unit 3: Written exam (2 hours)

Unit 4: Written exam (1 hour 30 minutes)

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at A*- C with minimum B in English and Religious Studies.
