Geography at Merchant Taylors' Boys' School

Course description

Some of the aims of the subject are:

To acquire and apply knowledge and understanding of physical and human processes. To appreciate the dynamic nature of the subject; how places, environments and issues change.

To understand how decisions are made about the use and management of resources and environments.

To clarify and develop your own values and attitudes in relation to geographical issues and questions.

Fieldwork plays a vital role in understanding the full nature of the subject and there are a number of days out in the local area. As part of the fieldwork programme there will be a compulsory residential trip during the autumn term of the AS year. This will form part of the work for the first module of the Lower Sixth year. Similarly the department’s investment in leading edge ICT allows A Level students to take advantage of a number of on-line resources, and much of the teaching is driven by ICT.
