Professional Cookery Level 2 Diploma (Fast-Track) at South Downs College

Course description

The course is aimed at students who are already working in a trainee position in a kitchen, or have had similar experience.

Course content

You will learn skills in professional cookery, hygiene and nutrition.

The course includes a range of practical activities with short practical tests and two longer tests; it also has theory input through assignments and short answer tests and a health and safety unit.

If you are under 19 and have not achieved an A-C in GCSE English and Maths, you will also be working towards these qualifications.


Entry requirements

A Level 1 Professional Cookery qualification is desirable, or relevant industry experience. This course is suitable for students over 17 years old.

Future opportunities

Upon completion of the course, you may progress on to a Level 3 Diploma in Kitchen Larder or Pastry and Confectionary.

Alternatively, you may wish to seek employment in the Hospitality and Catering Industry, including industrial catering, the popular restaurant sector, school meals and institutional catering, or the health service and care sector.

The College has links with major hospitality and catering organisations  both locally and nationally including The Royal Household, D&D Restaurants, Shire Inns and County Caterers.

The course is programmed over a three day period and students will have part time employment to complement studies.

Candidates should be aware that the college programme requires maximum attendance and punctuality throughout.
