Design and Technology: Product Design (Resistant Materials technology) at The Joseph Whitaker School

Course description

This course continues to build on the skills developed during the GCSE

Resistant Materials course and encourages a much more independent approach.

Students can study the course for one year at AS level or for two years to A2 level.

Students will focus on developing their designing, understanding of products and making skills through the modules they undertake.

A wider knowledge and understanding of materials used to make everyday products is developed during the course.

Students are encouraged to use IT skills when appropriate, in order to develop a more professional appearance to design folders.

Both AS/A2 courses provide opportunities to develop creativity and innovation related to the design and manufacture of products, components and systems.

Future career opportunities could include industries such as design, manufacturing, engineering, surveying and a wide variety of roles in construction.

You can only choose to study EITHER Resistant Materials OR

Graphic Products (not both).

5 A*-C in GCSE subjects . Grade B in chosen subjects
