Course description

Perfect if you want to develop a range of professional creative and design skills by working on a series of projects all based around making.

Course content

If you want to develop creativity into a career this is a great course for you. We combine academic and practical skills to enable you to develop as an effective professional in your chosen area of interest. You will explore a range of creative careers through practical projects in areas such as Fashion, Illustration, Interior Design, Architecture, Graphic Design, Art, Advertising, Web Design, Marketing and Advertising.

You will learn by working on a series of hands-on creative design projects where you will research, develop ideas, draw, design, photograph, film and make. You will learn about art and design and how it can be used to solve problems on a local and global scale.

You will have opportunities to develop commercial skills work professionally on paid contracts for The EDGE Creative Agency. You will learn how to open your own business, work as a freelancer and develop a high level of financial literacy to enable you to fulfil your creative potential as a sustainable career.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSE Grade C or Grade 4 including English and maths.


Assessment will be through a combination or practical, written, and presentation assignments. This is a mainly practical programme with written work as supporting evidence, and assessments based on practical work skills.

Financial information

If you are 16-18yrs old at the start of the Study Programme, it will be free. There may be additional payments required for trips, visits and other materials. For adult learners (over 19) financial support towards the costs of your Study Programme may be available. Eligible students may be able to get help with course related costs such as travel, equipment and childcare.

If you are aged 19 and over an Advanced Learning loan may be available if you are studying at Level 3 and above. To find out if you're eligible search Advance Learning Loans online.

Please note: For those claiming state working age benefit this course is classed as part-time.

Future opportunities

We offer this course as a one year Diploma or two year Extended Diploma, equivalent to three A Levels. On successful completion you could gain employment within the creative industries, alternatively you could choose to work in a freelance capacity. If you choose to continue your education you could progress on to a higher education course at either college or university.
