Spanish A-Level at Wymondham High School

Course description

THE SPANISH A-LEVEL COURSE concentrates on the social, cultural and political issues that are passionately debated in Spain and Latin America. Tourism is something that in Britain we associate with pleasant holidays: in Spain it is a major industry employing millions of people. People who are fluent in Spanish and English are at a premium. The Spanish-speaking world enjoys a very high profile in the world of film culture; Pedro Almodovar and Benecio del Toro are just two who have achieved international fame. Then there is the small matter of Spanish or Argentine football. The rapid and successful transition from dictatorship to democracy in the last 30 years has thrown up major issues such as regional autonomy and the unpredictability of the economy. There has never been a more urgent case in British schools for expanding a knowledge of Spanish and Spanish Culture.

Entry requirements

A minimum of a B or higher pass in Spanish at GCSE.

Future opportunities

The study of a language enables students to develop and build on the skills acquired at GCSE, enhances employment prospects, facilitates foreign travel and provides an insight into another culture and society. The Spanish course sets its priority on communication. It is designed to extend your skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. We plan to offer A Level students the opportunity to take part in a Spanish Study Visit
