Course description

This course introduces you into the childcare industry and will provide you with the necessary skills to gain employment.

The CACHE Level 2 Certificate - Introduction to Early Years Education and Care is a qualification that prepares you to work in a supervised capacity, with children and their families in a variety of settings and environments within the sector of Children's Services.

Course content

The course will cover the following units

  • Support physical care routines for children
  • An introduction to the role of the early years
  • Understand how to work in partnership
  • Understand legislation relating to the safeguarding, protection and welfare of children
  • Use legislation relating to the health and safety of children
  • Use legislation relating to equality, diversity and inclusive practice
  • Understand how to plan to meet the needs of the developing child
  • Supporting children's play
  • Support children's play in early years
  • Support the needs of the child in preparing for school
  • Supporting children's development
  • Use observation, assessment and planning
  • Support children's positive behaviour
  • Engage in professional development

Entry requirements

You will need at least 4 GCSEs at Grade D or above, a Level 1 Diploma Introduction to Health, Social Care & Children and Young People, or another Level 1 course.

Future opportunities

After successful completion of the Level 2 Certificate Introduction to Early Years Education and Care you can then choose to progress on to a Level 3 Diploma in Early Years Education and Care or enter employment.

For someone looking at a successful career in Childcare, they could find themselves working in nurseries, schools, playgroups, as a Private Childminder or in play-work, which encourages a child’s ability to learn and develop through fun activities. 

The demand is really high at the moment for all of the different jobs working with children, no matter what you want to do, there’s never been a better time to apply.

The local average wage on entry in to a career in Childcare - depend on qualification – is £10,000 - £16,000.

      Refectory and Square Cat Café

      Our refectory at Lady Edith's Drive is the perfect place to relax and unwind, whether you want a quick snack, a healthy lunch or just to catch up with friends. Breakfast is served every weekday from 8.30am until 11am, after this a huge choice foods are available including a range of premium sandwiches, pizzas, salads, paninis, and jacket potatoes. Our two campuses each have their own refectories. 

      The Square Cat Café at Westwood is a great place to catch-up with friends. We offer hot and cold drinks and snacks. From time-to-time you might even catch a live performance from performing arts students.

      Our Learner Engagement Team also provide other activities across both sites throughout the year.

      Common Room

      The learner common room on Lady Edith's Campus is located on the ground floor and near the LRC. Here you can relax with your friends and play a game or pool and our Learner Engagement team are always on hand to help you or provide information on a range of activities they are organising. 

      Learning Resource Centre

      We have two interactive Learning Resource Centres across Yorkshire Coast College providing lending, reference and information services and offering you the chance to utilise the latest technologies and study aids. Our Learning Centres are also linked to the British Library, meaning no matter what you need, you will always have access to it. 

      ICT, Moodle & Wifi

      Yorkshire Coast College has a great range of academic facilities for both students and staff. Feel free to check books out from our libraries and use our professional printing services amongst our many other facilities at Yorkshire Coast College.

      Our Repro facility offers both students and the general public, first class business stationery, educational printing as well as a host of photographic and print finishing services, including both black and white and full colour prints.
