Course description

Sociology is an interesting and dynamic subject that studies the way our society is organised and how we experience life. We are living through a time of enormous change and Sociology is the one social science to equip you with the knowledge and understanding to analyse, interpret and evaluate a range of perspectives on how social change affects us all. Sociology is not just about Britain it also addresses global issues like the environment, immigration, global crime, State crime and how globalisation is shaping our lives. Sociologists engage in research to test their theories and explain the way our society is organised. Consequently consideration of research methods and theoretical perspectives underpins all AS and A2 units.

The course will develop essential skills for university and future employment including analysing data, constructing arguments and essays using research evidence, communication skills and evaluation of material in an objective and analytical manner.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs A* - C including English and Maths. It is not necessary for you to have studies GCSE Sociology before you join the AS course but an interest in contemporary society is essential for you to succeed.
