Business Studies A Level at St Joseph's Catholic Academy

Course description

Can you tell me a job that doesn’t have any connection to business, difficult isn’t it? That’s because Business Studies forms an important backdrop to the world around us. Studying business encourages you to develop your analytical and evaluative skills which employers love and which will also be useful if you continue your studies.

Business Studies can also lead to a number of career paths and further education options. Business looks at the different structures different businesses can opt for, how businesses design, produce and market the products that we all buy along with how businesses monitor finances.

Course content

AS LEVEL You will study 6 modules Î What is business? Î Managers, leadership and decision making Î Decision making to improve marketing performance Î Decision making to improve operational performance Î Decision making to improve financial performance Î Decision making to improve human resource performance.

A2 LEVEL You will study 10 modules Î What is business? Î Managers, leadership and decision making Î Decision making to improve marketing performance Î Decision making to improve operational performance Î Decision making to improve financial performance Î Decision making to improve human resource performance Î Analysing the strategic position of a business Î Choosing strategic direction Î Strategic methods: how to pursue strategies Î Managing strategic choice.

Entry requirements

C English, C Maths or C Business at GCSE level.

Assessment

AS Level:

You will be assess via two exams, both of which cover all of the above content. Both are 90 minutes and are worth 80 marks. The first paper includes multi-choice questions, short answer questions and data response with second paper having a case study that you respond to.

A2 Level

The A level is assessed via three exams, all are 2 hours long and worth 100 marks. The first paper includes multi-choice questions, short answer questions and data response, the second paper having three data response questions and the third a case study that you respond to.
