Government and Politics at KES is designed to encourage an interest in the study of UK and world politics. It will enable you to develop an insight into political beliefs, central to an understanding of the modern world. You will study recent political developments and will be encouraged to engage with contemporary political debates.

Course content

In Year 12 you will study the subject through an examination of UK political procedures and institutions. In Year 13 there is more specialisation, requiring developed skills of analysis and evaluation. This course allows you to study contemporary politics and develop a strong understanding of the factors shaping both the British and American systems. If you are fascinated by the way decisions are made, who makes them and the thinking behind them then this subject will interest you.

In the first section of each paper you will be required to answer source-based questions to demonstrate knowledge of the unit content and in the second section you will be required to answer one essay question from a choice of three. In the second year there are two exams where you will look at three short answer knowledge questions and then two political analysis questions which will assess your knowledge, evaluation and analytical skills.
