Mathematics A Level at Buxton Community School

Course description

Students who study Maths at A’ level will follow the AQA Mathematics 6360 syllabus. The A’ level course is assessed in 6 modules as follows:

  • In June of Year 12 students will usually sit the Pure Core 1, Pure Core 2 and Statistics 1 exams.
  • In June of Year 13 students will usually sit the Pure Core 3, Pure Core 4 and Mechanics 1 exams.

Students who choose to study for the Further Maths A’ level will also follow the AQA Mathematics 6360 syllabus. The Further Maths A’ level course is assessed in 6 modules (over and above the 6 Maths A’ level modules) as follows:

  • In June of Year 12 students will usually sit the Decision 1, Decision 2 and Further Pure 1 exams.
  • In June of Year 13 students will usually sit the Mechanics 2, Further Pure 2 and Further Pure 3 exams.

Entry requirements

Entry into our 6th Form is based upon gaining a minimum of 5 A* - C at GCSE including at least a grade C in English and/or maths. BTEC courses will be taken into account in support of the 5 A*-C at GCSE. The minimum average points score for all subjects for entry into the 6th Form is 39.
