Media: Level 1 at Suffolk New College

Course description

You will study in a professional and vocational environment, using industry standard equipment in our fantastic facilities. You will be taught by media professionals and explore the areas of media, music technology and games design. You will also get to experience media outside of the classroom, as you go on trips such as visiting the London IMAX theatre.

All students who have not achieved a grade C or grade 4, or above in GCSE English or Maths or both will need to study an English or/and Maths qualification alongside their chosen main qualification.  


Course content

This study programme provides a basic introduction to the subjects of media, music technology and games design. The course offers introductory units in many of the key areas:

• Film and Television

• Animation and Soundtracks

• Music production and Recording

• Photography and Interactive Media

• Games Engines and Concept Art

It is a dynamic and interesting course that is suitable for you if you have little or no experience of Media but lots of enthusiasm. The media course is 100% coursework and will end with a final major project that you can specialise in one of the three areas.

A profile of GCSEs at grade E-F or grades 2-1

Tuition Fees

Additional Costs

There is a £50 Trips and Materials payment to be made, to cover specialist workshop materials and experiences. 




Future opportunities

75% of students progressed to level 2 programmes at College including level 2 Media, Art & Design, Games Design and Music Technology. 25% of student have achieved employment or are seeking employment in the creative industries.
