Mest 1 - Investigating Media

Mest 2 - Creating Media

 

A2 Level

Mest 3 - Critical Perspectives

Mest 4 - Media Research and Production.

 

Entry requirements

5 GCSE’s grade A*-C including English and Mathematics.

It is not essential that students have studied Media Studies at GCSE.

Assessment

 

Year 1 - AS

Mest 1 - 50% of AS (25% of A Level)

2 hours written examination (80 marks).

Two sections: A - four compulsory short answer questions. B - choice of one from two essays.

 

Mest 2 - 50% of AS (25% of A Level)

Practical unit - Internally assessed and externally moderated (80 marks)

Two linked production pieces taken from two of the three media platforms studied in Mest 1 plus 1500 word evaluation.

 

Year 2 - A2

Mest 3 - 25% of A Level

2 hours written examination

Two sections: A - three compulsory questions on unseen stimulus pieces. B - one essay from a choice of two topics, available January and June.

Mest 2 - 25% of A Level

Practical unit - Internally assessed and externally moderated (80 marks)

Two sections: Critical Investigation (48 marks)

Linked production piece (32 marks)

 

Future opportunities

There are many opportunities including education, business, journalism, media and advertising. Students may enter employment from A level or go on to study at Higher level through a degree or HND course.
