Course description

Course Content
The course has been designed to engage and inspire students by showing how an understanding of many contemporary issues requires a grasp of fundamental biological ideas.

This course will prepare students for future biology-based careers and for further study at undergraduate level.3 Units at 'AS' level, including:
* Cells, Exchange and Transport: 30% of the total AS GCE marks. 1 h written paper
* Molecules, Biodiversity, Food and Health: 50%of the total AS GCE marks . 1 h 45 min written paper
* Practical Skills In Biology 1: 20% of the total AS GCE marks .
Coursework, qualitative quantitative and evaluative skills assessed in class. Candidates complete three tasks set byOCR. Tasks are marked by the Centre using mark schemes provided by OCR.
Work is moderated by OCR.3 Units at 'A2' level, including:
* Communication, Homeostasis and Energy:15% of the total Advanced GCE marks . 1 h 15 min written paper. This unit contains some synoptic assessment and Stretch and Challenge questions.
* Control, Genomes and Environment: 25% of the total Advanced GCE marks . 2 h written paper. This unit contains some synoptic assessment and Stretch and Challenge questions.
* Practical Skills in Biology 2: 10% of the total Advanced GCE marks
* Coursework, qualitative quantitative and evaluative skills assessed in class. Candidates complete three tasks set byOCR. Tasks are marked by the Centre usingmark schemes provided by OCR. Work is moderated by OCR.

Entry requirements

You will need at least 5 GCSEs at A* - C (including GCSE Mathematics and/or GCSE English Language). AS': At least grade BB in GCSE Science'AS': At least two grade Bs in Triple/SeparateSciencesA2': At least grade D in 'AS' Biology
