Spanish AS/A2 Level at All Saints' Academy

Course description

Studying Spanish at AS will build upon the listening, reading, writing and speaking skills you developed during GCSE and will further extend your knowledge of Spain and Spanish culture. The course will see you researching information, practising your spoken Spanish through the discussion of a variety of topics and contemporary issues and taking part in debates.

You will reuse and extend your GCSE grammar using various resources including TV, radio, internet and film.

Course content

The AS is a one year course which comprises of four units of work: Social issues and trends; Artistic culture; Grammar; Works: Literary texts and films.
 
The A Level is a two year course which comprises of four units of work: Social issues and trends ; Political and artistic culture; Grammar; Works: Literary texts and films

Entry requirements

Minimum grade B full course GCSE in Spanish.

Assessment

The AS is assessed after one year with three exams;
Paper 1 – Listening, Reading and Writing (40%) (1 hour 45)
Paper 2 – Writing (30%) (1 hour 15)
Paper 3 – Speaking (30%) (12-14 mins)
 
The A Level is assessed after two years with three exams;
Paper 1 – Listening, Reading and Writing (40%) (2 hours 30)
Paper 2 – Writing (30%) (2 hours)
Paper 3 – Speaking (30%) (21-23 mins)

Future opportunities

Studying a modern foreign language undoubtedly increases your career opportunities and can be combined with almost any other subject. Fluency in a foreign language is a pre-requisite for access to many jobs in tourism, international business, marketing and finance. It can also be used to facilitate foreign travel.
