Fitness & Leadership - NOCN Level 2 Diploma - 1 year at Longley Park Sixth Form College

Course description

You will improve your confidence, fitness and leadership skills through practical activities linked to sport and public services.  This course covers sports coaching, how to plan and deliver practical sessions and how to get the best out of yourself and others.  You will take part in projects based around problem solving, team work, planning and organising events and presentations.  You will find out about jobs related to sport and public services.

There will be a weekly practical session.  You will have access to specialist facilities at the Concord Sports Centre for practical work and will also have free access to the College fitness suite.

Course content

The Level 2 Diploma is made up of smaller qualifications, the Level 2 Award and Level 2 Certificate, which you will take during the year.

These are some of the areas you will study:

  • Understanding team motivation
  • Fitness testing and training
  • Developing leadership skills
  • Personal physical fitness for sport and public services
  • Development of personal health and wellbeing
  • Physiology and exercise
  • Nutrition and weight management
  • Prejudice and discrimination
  • Health and safety in the workplace
  • Building a career portfolio and CV writing


A number of specifications will be changing and prospectus entries are based on information we have to date. This means that course content may be subject to change.


Entry requirements

You will need at least 2 GCSEs at 3/D.  You will normally need at least a grade 3/D in English Language and Maths.  You must be happy to take part in practical sport and outdoor activities and teambuilding. 


You will be assessed through regular practical projects and written assignments.  Your portfolio of work and evidence will be externally assessed twice a year.

Financial information

Everything you must have to undertake the course will be provided by college.  You may have to pay for extras such as trips/visits.

Future opportunities

You may wish to go on to study the BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport Development Coaching & Fitness or a combination of A Levels and BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diplomas in differing subject areas.  Other students have also gone on to complete apprenticeships or employment in the fitness and leisure industry.
