3D Design A Level at South Bromsgrove High

Course description

Module 1Title
Unit 1 – 50% of the total AS marks – 80 marks available.
Coursework Portfolio– 25% of the total A level marks.
Coursework no time limit.

Candidates should produce a collection of material which exemplifies work carried out during the AS course. Candidates should be selective when deciding what to submit for this unit. The contents of the portfolio will be determined by the nature of the course of study. All students will follow a Three Dimensional Design endorsement.
Set and marked by the Centre and moderated by AQA by visit to the Centre. Visits will normally take place in June.

Module 2 Title
Unit 2 – 50% of the total AS marks – 80 marks available.
AS Externally Set Assignment– 25% of the total A level marks.

Candidates select one of five starting points. The externally – set assignment will last from 1st February until the deadline for receipt of marks. Candidates may produce preparatory work and a finished piece or pieces of work of a wholly developmental nature. Candidates should be selective when deciding what to submit for this unit.
During this period candidates complete 5 hours unaided, supervised time, in which they focus on developing ideas. Set and marked by the Centre and moderated by AQA by visit to the Centre. Visits will normally take place in June.

Module 3 Title
Unit 3 – 25 % of the total A Level marks – 80 marks available.
Personal Investigation
Coursework No time limit.

Candidates continue to work in the endorsement chosen at AS. Candidates are required to develop personal investigation based on an idea, concept or theme, supported by 3000 words, leading to a finished piece or pieces. Candidates should be selective when deciding what to submit for this unit.
Set and marked by the Centre and moderated by AQA by visit to the Centre. Visits will normally take place in June.

Module 4 Title
Unit 4 – 25% of the total A level marks – 80 marks available
A2 Externally Set Assignment – 25% of the total A level marks

Candidates select one of 8 starting points. The externally set assignment will last from 1st February until the deadline for receipt of marks. Candidates should produce a clearly defined selection of work that makes up a whole, leading to a finished piece or pieces. Candidates should be selective when deciding what to submit for this unit. During this period candidates complete 15 hours unaided,
supervised time, in which they focus on developing ideas. Set and marked by the Centre and moderated by AQA by visit to the Centre. Visits will normally take place in June

Entry requirements

At least one of the following:
1. GCSE grade A*-B in English Language
2. GCSE grade A*-B in Art and Design;
3. BTEC grade Distinction*-Merit in Art and Design and Engineering.
4. Evidence of good drawing and/or practical skills.
