Photography A-Level at Kenton School

Course description

Photography is an Art A Level with a specialism in Photography. It is a very wide ranging course and can involve anything from taking photographs through to creating animations and film.

Written Work

You will research and examine the work of artists and photographers, learn to analyse images and use technical language effectively.

Practical

You will explore how to use digital and 35mm cameras in traditional and non traditional ways, use lighting effectively and learn how to plan and evaluate your practical work effectively. You will learn how to use computer programmes like Photoshop to enhance and develop your work and you will explore how to develop creative ideas.

Course content

AS Level Unit 1

  • Portfolio of work set and marked internally.
  • Moderated by AQA.

AS Level Unit 2

  • Supervised time 5 hours.
  • Marked internally. Moderated by AQA.

A2 Level Unit 3 

  • Personal investigation.
  • Personal investigation supported by 1000 – 3000 words.
  • Marked internally. Moderated by AQA.

A2 Level Unit 4

  • A2 externally set assignment.
  • Supervised time 15 hours.

Entry requirements

Grade C in GCSE English.Grade B in either GCSE Art, Media, Textiles or Graphics.

1 Unit of coursework and 1 unit Controlled Test at both AS and A2.

Photography is an excellent A Level if you want to enter the world of the creative industries: Art, Design, Graphics, Web Design, Film, Animation, Computer Games Design. Students frequently go on to study Photography at university
