Sport Extended Diploma at Freman College

Course description

The Extended Diploma in Sport is a two-year, 3 A-Level equivalent vocational course covering an extensive range of topics related to sports participation, development, coaching and fitness.

Students wanting to reach University as well as those who have an interest in pursuing a career in coaching or in the sports industry would be ideal for this course.


Course content

Students are required to complete 15 Units; which are a mixture between theory and practical. Each Unit of work covers a different topic within the Sports Industry. Due to the nature of the course, all Extended Diploma students are required to complete the Level 2 Sports Leaders Award during the year which builds on coaching and leadership qualities and gains students an additional qualification.

Entry requirements

Grade C or above in GCSE PE or at least a Merit in both Cambridge National Sport Science and Sports Studies. Grade C in GCSE English.


With the course being mainly assignment based the ability to meet deadlines and having good personal organisation is crucial. The course requires students to complete one external exam and two further externally assessed pieces of coursework; The Extended Diploma is ideal for those students who enjoy playing and coaching sport and PE and who prefer mainly continual coursework assessments.
