Course description

BTEC Sports Performance and Excellence gives you a chance to gain an understanding of the key concepts and practical skills required in the sporting vocational sector. You study a wide variety of sports units and are assessed through an exam, project work and practical sports.  It will prepare you with the knowledge and understanding relating to elite performance and related careers.

Unit 1 – Anatomy and Physiology

Unit 2 – Fitness Training and Programming for Health Sport and Well Being

Unit 3 – Professional Development in the Sports Industry

Unit 5 – Application of Fitness Testing

Unit 6 – Sports Psychology

Unit 7 – Practical Sports Performance

Unit 8 – Coaching for Performance

Unit 26 – Technical and Tactical Demands of Sport

Unit 27 – The Athletes Lifestyle

Unit 28 – Sports Performance Analysis

Entry requirements

Merit or distinction at BTEC Level 2 Sport or Science. C or better at GCSE PE or Science.

Assessment

Unit 1 – External written exam

Unit 2 – External task set and marked by exam board

All other assignments in the remaining units are set and marked by your teachers. 

Future opportunities

It is an ideal course to progress into vocational work within the sports and leisure industry, or to continue with further education at university.
