Art & Design BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Walsall College

Course description

This course will equip you with a good understanding of a range of practices and enables you to develop your skills further through the introduction of a number of ambitious and exciting projects. Specialist pathways support the continued development and investigation of areas including Printmaking, Graphic Design, and Fine Art (Painting, Sculpture and Time-Based Media), Photography, Textiles, Fashion and 3D Design.

You will be encouraged to find your own methods of expression through a series of individually motivated and innovative projects, culminating in a large scale exhibition. Equally, you will be asked to consider the professional and vocational aspects of their studies through the completion of a Professional Practice unit.

Throughout the course there may be regular trips to national galleries and museums, including London, Liverpool and Oxford. Similarly, there may be opportunities to visit Europe on a residential trip.

Private study is required and the course offers opportunities to gain further qualifications in Functional Skills English, Maths and or ICT.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE’s at Grades C or above including English Language and/or Maths (some courses may require both, please check your individual course). Or successful completion of Level 2 related qualification.

Assessment

On-going and continuous assessment through the building of portfolio work and assignment led projects.

Future opportunities

Many learners may wish to gain the level 3 90 Credit qualification in order to enter a specialist area of employment or to progress and 'top-up' to a larger qualification such as the level 3 Extended Diploma which is available as a one year top-up programme upon successful completion of the BTEC Level 3 90-credit Diploma. The Extended Diploma top-up is broadly equivalent to three GCE A Levels and offers enough UCAS point to gain access to a chosen University. University (Degree courses), Higher Education providers HNC/D, Foundation in Art and Design, employment, apprenticeships.
