Chemistry AS/A2 Level at Cardinal Newman Catholic School A Specialist Science College

Course description

Studying Chemistry at Newman Sixth, you will build on your current knowledge from GCSE Science relating to Atomic Structure, Bonding, Chemical Reactions and the Periodic Table.

You will use investigative skills to analyse types of alcohols, unknown substances and you will begin to distinguish one chemical from another that is aesthetically similar but differs chemically.

Students on this course are able to use mathematical skills to calculate energy involved in reactions, molecular mass, and other molar calculations. Practical skills, alongside the use of ICT, will be challenged and perfected in order to extend your learning.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE’s grades A – C, and must have BB in Science (Year 10 Core and Year 11 Additional), B in Maths & C in English.

1 x 60 minute exam

1 x 105 minute exam

9 x Practical Skills Assessments (best 3 are submitted)

 

A2:

1 x 75 minute exam

1 x 120 minute exam
