Hair & Media Make Up VTCT Level 2 Diploma at Carshalton College
The VTCT Diploma in Hair and Media Make up (QCF) Level 2 is a vocational qualification for learners seeking a career as an employed and/or self-employed hair and make-up artist.
This qualification is based on the beauty therapy (make-up) and Hairdressing National Occupational Standards (NOS) and is recognised by the UK's leading professional bodies, the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC) and the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT).
Units studied include:
- Follow Health & Safety practice in the salon
- Client care and communication in beauty-related industries
- Apply make-up
- The art of photographic make-up
- The art of dressing hair
- Create an image based on a theme within the Hair & Beauty sector
- Themed face painting
- Client consultation
- The Art of colouring hair
- Plaiting and twisting
- Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp
- Provide eye lash and brow treatments
- Eye lash perming
- Nail Art
These units are subject to change.
The entry requirements are a minimum of three GCSEs at grades A-D to include English and maths.
A positive reference is required from your employer, teacher, or tutor (if progressing internally or from another college), together with an excellent record for attendance and punctuality.
You may also be asked to demonstrate your commitment and skills in an interview
You will be assessed on the course will be in the following ways:
- Observed work
- Witness statements
- Audio-visual media
- Evidence of prior learning or attainment
- Written questions/Exams
- Oral questions
- Case studies
This qualification will develop the knowledge and skills to prepare learners for employment as a junior hair and make-up artist.
Learners will have their hairdressing and make-up artistry skills assessed in a real or realistic working environment.
Fees are not normally paid by 16 to 18 year olds.
Students enrolled on this course will be required to buy a uniform which will cost £70 approx.
Career opportunities as a junior hair and make-up artist exist in a variety of contexts, including:
- Commercial hair and beauty salons
- Independent/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings
- Product manufacturing and training
Whilst this qualification's primary purpose is to prepare learners for employment as a junior hair and make-up artist, learners may choose to develop their skills further by undertaking Technical Level qualifications on the Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects and Hair and Media Make-Up.
Due to the popular nature of these courses, we are unable to offer firm progression to all of our students. The limited places are offered on the basis of attendance, punctuality, attitude and achievement. These qualities must be demonstrated throughout the programme.
