Drama and Theatre Studies at The Warriner School
Unique in the Sixth Form Curriculum, Drama challenges students to develop their creativity, interpersonal skills, leadership and analytical ability while becoming independent theatre practitioners and honing their academic skills. The AS year lays firm foundations from which students explore, create and analyse with increasing independence at A2. For example, one unit at A2 demands that students create a piece of theatre in a group from scratch. They have to manage their time effectively, showing commitment and creativity while producing something collectively on time. Their exploration of a play at A2 allows them to hone their own personal vision of theatre and to explore their directorial approach. It is essential for students of A Level Drama and Theatre Studies to go to the theatre. There will be several theatre trips through the school year to varied productions that students will analyse for their coursework and which will influence their practical work.
The Edexcel course is made up of two units of study. The first is a coursework module assessed practically in class and through written work. The second is a practical exam.
The A2 year is again divided into one coursework. Unit and an exam. At A2 the exam is written.
Students must achieve at least a grade B in GCSE Drama or a grade B in GCSE English Literature.
