Performing Arts for Film, Television & Stage Level 3 Diploma at Heart of Worcestershire College

Course description

Are you a natural performer? Do you thrive under the spotlight and enjoy performing to an audience? Could you see yourself as the next big movie, stage or TV star? Then our Diploma in Performing Arts for Film, Television and Stage is the perfect course for you.

Designed to deliver training in all aspects of the performing arts industry, this course will prepare you for higher education or employment in many areas of the industry. This exciting and fast-paced course reflects the working world of performing arts offering you a great deal of practical performance opportunities including public performance and regular ‘in-house’ work. Throughout the course you will cover a variety of aspects of the three disciplines including; Ensemble Singing, Solo Performance, Ballet, Contemporary and Street Dance, Musical Theatre performance, Devised and Scripted Drama, Improvisation and Physical Theatre. You also have the opportunity to study a number of practitioners from these areas as well as work in the technical aspects of theatre including; Theatrical Sounds and Lighting Design and Operation, Stage Management and Set Construction. You’ll also get to study specialist units which may include: Principles of Acting, Dance Performance, Developing Physical Theatre, Applying Physical Theatre, Musical Theatre Performance, Theatre for Children, Variety Theatre, Devising Plays, Singing for Actors and Dancers, Auditions for Actors, Contemporary Theatre Performance, Classical Theatre Performance, Healthy Performer and International Dance. As well as the practical aspects of the course, you will carry out research into theatrical history, work on character profiling and experiment with creating budget sheets for performing arts productions. The course is a multi-disciplinary course where equal importance is placed upon drama, singing and dance.

Entry requirements

You will need five GCSE grades A-C in academic subjects, including at least a grade D in English and maths. Ideally, you will also have a GCSE in drama, but this is not essential.We will invite you to attend an audition where you will perform a monologue piece. We will provide you with a monologue, or you can choose your own. Either way, you must be able to perform the piece from memory. 

Our Extended Diploma is equivalent to three A Levels.


You will be assessed on an ongoing basis through practical performances and written assignments. Your written work will contain self- evaluations of your own performances.

Future opportunities

After completing your Extended Diploma, you will be ready to enrol in a specialist Dance School, Drama School or Music Academy. You may also like to consider our HNC in Performing Arts or a university degree in a related subject. 

With further training, hard work and dedication, you could become a Theatre Director, Stage Manager or an Actor in a West End musical!

Look no further, our Performing Arts department boasts a professionally equipped theatre in St. Andrews' building with a state-of-the-art computerised lighting system, sound systems and multiple stages and seating positioning, giving you a platform to showcase your talent. As a Performing Arts student you will have the chance to participate in a variety of productions throughout the year. 

      The View

      Feeling peckish? The View is a place for you to grab a coffee, stop for a light snack or sit down for a full meal. It boasts a vast and ever-changing menu of freshly prepared snacks, meals, soups and cakes made by our Chefs and catering students. Looking out over the River Severn, The View is the place in college to meet friends over coffee, relax with a book over cake, or sit down for some enjoyable, wholesome, home-cooked food without any of the effort of cooking or preparing it yourself.


      Make time for a milky latte and visit our Starbucks counter in The View. We have the only one in Worcester City Centre! So come sit back, warm up and relax with a cappuccino, or even grab a berry frappe to go!


      Our nurseries provide a happy, secure and stimulating place where learning through play is purposeful and fun! Our bright and spacious nurseries offer a wide range of flexible childcare for children aged 3 months to 5 years old. The nurseries are recognised as 'outstanding' by Ofsted who also praised the training received by staff, and the atmosphere that the children enjoy.

      St Dunstan's is a state-of-the-art building dedicated to our creative arts and hair and beauty provision in Worcester. Short-listed for the prestigious AJ Retrofit Awards, this modern building is home to our hair and beauty salon, art and design studios and coffee shop making it the perfect place for students to explore their creative side. Our hair and beauty salon, Fountains is open to members of the public.
