English Language at Andover College

Course description

A Level English Language is a popular course that allows students to explore the use of language in society. A 'text' on English Language is anything from a blog or song lyrics to newspaper and magazine articles, allowing students to look at English in contemporary contexts. Students will pick apartlanguage to explore grammar and word choices, whilst covering the following subject content:

  • Seeing Through Language
  • Representation and language
  • Language explorations
  • Language investigations
  • The course includes a number of external trips to maximise students’ learning experiences on the course. The English Language Department’s annual trip abroad is to Dublin where students have seen comedy performances by Lee Evans, Russell Brand and Michael McIntyre as well as being submersed in a city steeped in literary and cultural heritage. Our students have also shared their views in live TV shows broadcast to the nation on Channel 5 and ITV.

    5 A* - C grades at GCSE including a grade C or above in English Language.Interview Required: Yes
