Music AS/A Level at The Commonweal School

Course description

If you would like a career in a subject that you have enjoyed as a hobby for years, allows you to be creative and express yourself, then music might just be the answer! Have you thought about a future as a composer, song writer, sound engineer; performer, or teacher? This A-level course is aimed at students with a passion for and love of Music. A level music will equip students with the skills to embark on a career in music or study it further at University level. The skills gained include self-motivation, creativity, self‐confidence, organisation and teamwork. The course includes music from a variety of genres and therefore will engage musicians with interests in different styles of music. It also allows those who are talented composers to really develop their creative skills, whilst those who enjoy performing can gain greater confidence and have more opportunities to share their talent with others.

Entry requirements

Ideally we would like you to have taken GCSE music and have at least a B grade. If you have not taken GCSE but play/sing an instrument to at least grade 5 standard then we will consider you for the course upon interview and your other GCSE grades. It is a good idea to have a sound understanding of different genres of music through listening to a variety of styles on a regular basis. You need to be learning an instrument/voice and having regular lessons.
