Applied Business at The Castle School
This mainly coursework-based subject is aimed at developing a detailed, hands-on understanding of the key elements of business. Through active assignment work students will learn about practices and techniques in marketing, finance, operations management and human resources. They will gain practical experience of the risks and attractions of setting up an enterprise and how businesses need to respond to the market environment and other social and ethical considerations. Good organisation, effective time management and meeting deadlines are crucial to successful completion of the course.
The course content is broadly similar to Business Studies – the main difference being that for Applied Business far more of the assessment is as coursework, which is marked internally and sampled for moderation by AQA. There are 6 units over the two years of study, of which 4 are coursework-based and 2 written exams.
Minimum grade C in GCSE Mathematics and English.
