French AS/A2 Level at Balby Carr Community Academy

Course description

We aim to equip students to use the French language for the purpose of communication at a level significantly higher than that at GCSE. The AS level enables students to “survive” in foreign language situations such as shopping understanding media, holidays and the world of health & sport.

At Advanced level, students develop the ability to handle ideas and opinions on a range of topics such as, the environment, the multi-cultural society and other world wide issues. In addition, students develop an insight into the society of countries where French is spoken.

Although grammar still has to be tackled and vocabulary learned, students find that the smaller group size allows a relaxed but purposeful atmosphere in which problems are quickly solved.

The course covers the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students spend one additional lesson each fortnight with the French Language Assistant.
