Spanish A Level at Bridgwater College

Course description

Spanish is now the second in the league of languages, after Chinese.  It is spoken by around 417 million native speakers in 21 countries. Whether you choose to do the one year AS Spanish or decide to go on and take the full A level over two years, you can look forward to a course which combines a really useful, practical skill with the opportunity to find out what makes Europe's most popular holiday resort tick, as well as learning about other cultures such as those in Latin America.

Course content

Units of study include:

  • Using Spanish whilst looking at issues relating to Media, Popular Culture, Healthy Living/Lifestyle, Family and Relationships
  • Exploring issues such as Environment, The Multicultural Society, Contemporary Social Issues and Cultural Topics

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs in the A* – C range, including Maths, English and Spanish at grade C or above.


Listening, reading, writing and speaking examinations.

Future opportunities

The large majority of our students go on to Higher Education, many study Spanish combined with another subject. You might even decide to go, work and live in Spain or Latin America to practice and improve your language skills.
