IT Level 2 Cambridge Technical Diploma at South Downs College

Course description

This level 2 diploma course is designed to allow learners to develop their understanding and knowledge in a range of IT subjects.

The purpose is to gain practical skills that allow you to progress into employment or further study.

Learners will gain valuable experience in both hardware and software from setting up a computer network to creating a multi-page interactive website.

In addition, learners will develop valuable employability skills related specifically to the IT industry. 

Course content

Students will gain essential skills in using the latest Adobe software such as Photoshop CC for graphics and Muse CC for website creation as well as setting up computer networks, selecting suitable computer components and building a PC for a client.

Each week, students will study the various units through theory, demonstration and practical activities, comprising around 12 hours. In addition, there will be a group tutorial and an option to re-sit Maths and English qualifications.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at grade D or above including English Language or Mathematics or BTEC Level 1 Diploma in IT at Merit Level.


This is a vocational course and does not require students to undertake any examinations.

Instead students will be assessed throughout the year by completing a number of assignments.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of the course students with a high Merit/Distinction profile and tutor recommendation may progress to the Level 3 BTEC Diploma/Extended Diploma course in IT or may wish to apply for a level 2/3 apprenticeship in an IT related area.
