English GCSE Resit at Wanstead High School

Course description

Students will study a range of fiction and non-fiction texts as well as writing for different audiences and purposes.

Course content

There are two examinations at the end of the course as follows:

Paper One – Explorations in Creative Writing and Reading
Section A: Reading - one literature fiction text. Students analyse the writer’s style and use of language.
Section B: Writing - descriptive or narrative writing.
1 hour 45 minutes
50% of GCSE

Paper Two – Writers’ Viewpoints and Perspectives
Section A: Reading - one non-fiction text and one literary non-fiction text
Section B: Writing - writing to present a viewpoint:
1 hour 45 minutes
50 % of GCSE

Non-examination Assessment : Spoken language
- responding to questions and feedback
- use of standard English


Two exams at the end of the course
