Business Level 1 Foundation Pathway at Reading College

Course description

This pathway is for young people who want to explore a career in Business through a full-time college course and may need support with English, Maths and Personal Development. You will take part in practical activities and assessment is continuous rather than by exam. Our job coaches will support you to complete work experience as part of your course.

Course content

Vocational Certificate in Learning, employability and Progression.

This course will give you an introduction to Business and Enterprise and time to think about your future career. We arrange for support from our college Careers Advisers who are there to help you choose your next step. Your tutor will work with you to set individual learning targets each term and you will get feedback on your progress. You will be assessed through creating a folder of evidence and you will be assessed at a level that suits you. Functional Skills and GCSE Maths and English will be assessed through external examinations.

Entry requirements

You do not need qualifications to join this pathway. However, you will need a successful interview with a member of the teaching team to show your commitment to full-time study and your interest in the subject. We will also expect a satisfactory school reference.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of the course you may move on to full time Level 2 course, apprenticeship or employment.

      Reading train station is a 20 minute walk from the College.

      Travelling from surrounding areas: there are direct lines from many local stations including: Didcot, Slough, Maidenhead, Wokingham, Basingstoke, Newbury, Pangbourne, Twyford and Earley.

      Travelling from London: there are regular trains from London Paddington to Reading taking 25-30 minutes.

      BY BUS

      There are regular bus services that stop along Kings Road:

      Reading Buses - routes 13, 14, 17
      Please Note: Reading buses require the exact fare.

      Arriva - routes 800, 850
      First Group - route 190
      Thames Travel - routes 126, 127

      In partnership with Reading Buses, students can get a weekly Travelcard at a reduced rate by showing the driver their student ID card.

      The Green Bus will be operating two new bus services from September 2014 for Reading College students.

       
      Service RC1 and RC2 will run once daily according to an agreed timetable on 175 days of each academic year connecting the college with Slough, Maidenhead and the areas in between.
