Art and Design: Textiles A level at Enfield County School

Course description

You will work with a range of mostly practical activities such as printing, fabric painting, appliqué, batik, embroidery, weaving, yarn and fabric dying, painting and drawing.  These processes are developed in a highly individual and creative way and will enable you to respond to the visual world in an expressive and imaginative manner.

You will also develop your analytical and documenting skills together with your knowledge of art and textiles in both historical and contemporary contexts.

Entry requirements

For students who demonstrate an aptitude and interest in decorative textiles and who wish to further explore and experiment in the creative and practical aspects of the media.  Also, for those students who are thinking about careers for which an art/textiles background would be relevant.

The best foundation for success in AS and A level Textiles is a good GCSE grade in Art and/or Textiles (minimum grade of B) together with the enthusiasm, commitment and determination to develop your interest and abilities. Please refer to our entry policy

Assessment

Monitoring and assessment take place throughout the course but there are 2 units over the two years for A2:

Component 1 – CSWK 60%

Component 2 – ESA 40%

Future opportunities

Students often go on to further studies in art and design or textiles, usually at Art College or further education.  These studies may then lead on to careers in fashion, textiles, jewellery design, costume design, theatre design, interior design or product buying in areas such as fashion and textiles.
