TEXTILES at The Weald School

Course description

This exciting practical course is ideal for anyone who enjoys experimenting with a wide range of materials to develop creativeand artist skills. You will be taught how to use specialist techniques in a well-equipped department to produce highly individual and expressive pieces of fine art textiles. We will look at the work of contemporary textile artists and visit a large exhibition in London. This course celebrates the colours, structures and textures that are so vital to the tactile nature of textiles. It would be suitable for anyone who enjoys exploring the visual world around them, considering conceptual ideas and then communicating this through the endless possibilities of creative textile work.

Entry requirements

Have an understanding of the ‘elements’ of line, tone, texture, shape, form and colour

Have an interest in creating and understanding art and textiles

Be open to exploring new ideas and concepts

Have a desire to relate to the wider aspects of art, textiles craft and design in society.

If you have taken GCSE Art and/or Textiles, a C grade or above is required. However students who have no previous art/textile qualifications may still apply for this course and will be selected through individual interview.
